Guest Post with Rachel Dewey: Homemade Lotion
The idea of creating homemade lotion has excited me recently. So naturally (pun intended!), I turned to the pro! I, from the bottom of my lil heart, don’t think there is anyone more qualified to turn to, than Rachel Dewey! Rachel has been featured on my blog several times; we’re all friends here! Today she will walk us through the process of how to make a basic homemade lotion; listen to Rachel, children!:
“This recipe is for a very basic lotion. I like it because you can customize the base oil and the essential oils depending on what you have on hand or what you like! The recipe only makes a small amount so if you want more, double or triple the recipe.
The supplies you will need:
– few measuring spoons and cups
– pan with water
– heat proof dish (I always use my glass measuring cup)
– electric whisk or beater
– clean container to store your lotion (you can use an old jar–make sure to clean in boiling water and dry thoroughly first)
The Recipe for a basic face or body cream:
1/4 cup oil – feel free to us jojoba, almond, avocado, grapeseed, olive, etc.
1 tablespoon beeswax
1/2 cup distilled water
10ish drops essential oil – I used 6 of grapefruit and 6 of sweet orange
Put the beeswax and oil in a heatproof dish in a pan of water over medium heat (as seen in the picture). Once the beeswax is completely melted take it off the heat and let it slightly cool (a couple minutes). Get the mixer and slowly add the water; while you are mixing (keep your mixer on low speed), it will start turning into a thicker/creamier concoction. At some point add your essential oils and mix some more. Spoon into your storage container and you are finished!!!! It is such a nice creamy lotion, I know you will love it!”
Thanks Rachel! I can’t wait to make it!
P.S. If you went to Yellowcake‘s grand re-opening a couple weeks ago (which you obviously must have), then you most likely saw Rachel there giving hand massages with this exact lotion! Oh, Cleveland…so full of super stars…
