Its a Tea Party!…And somethin’s going on…

May 6, 2011

Yesterday I gave you a little sneak preview of my 12 piece concentration and now here are the final prints for you to enjoy!!

The idea of my concentration was to bring  a realistic situation and make it surrealistic. Everything in each photograph is completely on location. Every couch and desk and vacuum cleaner was hauled in my big Suburban around the Cleve to get each shot. My intentions were to create a vintage ambiance to show each woman looking elegant and sophisticated, yet they are caught in a [usually] private situation. The quirky part of it all, is that whatever activity they are doing, their surroundings are misfitting. The characters seem not to be phased by this at all. You usually take a bath or brush your teeth in the comfort and security of your own home, but instead the location of their belongings are placed where neighbors could be watching…This brings the viewer to wonder and possibly even take a double look.

Each scene shows pretty clear juxtaposition…for example the young house wife is vacuuming in a big muddy lot, but there is no way she would be able to clean all of that dirt up with just one vacuum. A little lady who is tanning in the sun is soaking up her pride while she’s surrounded by graves–you are going to die eventually, what does any of this matter?? And you can figure out the rest…

This is probably one of the most fun projects I have ever done! I think it shows my personality and sense of humor well with the girlie and vintagy touch. And my friends are great for helping me get through it!
